Congratulations on your purchase of the COBB Subaru Throttle Body Coupler for your Subaru! The following instructions will assist you through your installation process. Please read them first BEFORE beginning the install and familiarize yourself with the steps and tools needed. If you feel that you cannot properly perform this installation, we HIGHLY recommend you take the vehicle to a qualified and experienced automotive technician.
Â
Part List
- COBB Throttle Body Coupler
- 2 x Worm Gear Clamps
Tools Needed
- Ratchet
- Extension
- 8mm Socket
- 10mm Socket
- 12mm Socket
- Flathead Screwdriver
Removing Factory Top Mounted IntercoolerÂ
Â
- Standing at the front of your car, looking at the motor, you can first start off by removing the two (2) 12mm bolts that hold the intercooler to its mounting bracket on either side of the intercooler as well as the two (2) 12mm bolts that secure the bypass valve to the front of the intercooler.Â
- Using a 10mm socket, remove the three (3) 10mm bolts that secure the metal tubing that is secured to the front of the intercooler.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or 10mm socket to loosen the hose clamp on the front of the intercooler that connects it to the throttle body.  There are two clamps, loosen the one closest to the TMIC.Â
- Use a flathead screwdriver or 10mm socket to loosen the hose clamp underneath the intercooler on the passenger side, which connects the intercooler to the factory y-pipe.  Hopefully, the hose clamp is in an orientation that makes it easier to get to.
- With all bolts removed and hose clamps loosened, start pulling on the TMIC and work it out of the engine bay.  You’ll want to make sure the BPV is out of the way when you are pulling.  Make sure you keep track of the gasket between the TMIC and BPV, don’t let it fall. Â
Installing COBB Throttle Body CouplerÂ
Â
- With the intercooler out of the way, you are now free to remove the throttle body coupler away from the throttle body.  Using a flat head screwdriver or socket, loosen the remaining worm gear clamp and remove the coupler. Â
- Install your new COBB coupler in place of the old one and install and tighten down one of the supplied clamps on the throttle body side.  Don’t over tighten the clamp, as it can be easy to strip if you over torque it.Â
- Reinstall your TMIC in the reverse order you’ve removed it.  Remember to reinstall the gasket between the TMIC and BPV!  Â
- Go show off your new under-hood flare!Â
