Initial Setup

  1. Park your car in a flat, level area.

  2. using a 10mm wrench or socket, disconnect the ground side of your battery.

  3. Now undo the positive battery terminal.

  4. With the battery unhooked, loosen both of the battery tie down bolts and remove the tie-down and battery from the engine bay.

Driver’s Side (USDM) Seal Installation

  1. Using a 12mm socket remove the two bolts for the air pump near the AC Compressor on the metal arms that stick out.

  2. Gently lift up the plastic tab with a screwdriver then pull the harness upward to remove it from the mount.

  3. Undo the hose clamp holding the air pump to the plastic hose.

  4. Squeeze the two release tab on the large two pin wiring connector and unplug them from eachother. The first tab is at a 90 degree angle from the way they connect together. The other is on the opposite side inline with the connection.

  5. Remove the 10mm bolt on the side of the engine just in front of the coil pack on the metal bracket where it comes down towards the back of the car.

  6. At this point the air pump should lift freely out of the engine bay, and the end of the TGV should be exposed.

  7. To install, remove the two phillips head screwdriver and remove the cover entirely.

  8. Using a small amount of the provided silicone lube, rub it onto the o-ring and slip the o-ring over the tgv into the groove.

  9. This seal inside is around the shaft that moves the tgv open and closed. It works similarly to a throttle body. Over time the seal can dry out or fail. If there’s any debris in here, take a second and clean it out.

  10. Apply a small dab of the provided thread locker to the tip of two of your allen bolts.

  11. Gently press the TGV cap into place on the housing. You shouldn’t need to push too hard, and if you press hard while it sn’t straight, you may cause damage to the shaft or o-ring.

  12. Using your m3 allen wrench or socket, install the two allen bolts you previously put thread locker on.

  13. At this point, that side is done. You can go ahead and re-install your air pump in the reverse order of removal. Everything should go back in just as it was.

Passenger’s Side (USDM)

  1. Welcome, to the hard side. Take a moment, breathe, think about all the moments in your life that lead you to this point, you got this.

  2. Start by unhooking this blow by sensor. hold down the clip and pull the white sensor out of the hose assembly.

  3. press down the tab to unhook this wiring near the strut tower for the o2 sensor. Then squeeze the tabs on the clip where it goes through the bracket and set this wiring harness free for now.

  4. The grey arm towards the firewall should get pulled towards the front of the car and release the ecu connector. This should give you enough movement to get it out of the way slightly.

  5. Undo the small black connector towards the end so you can fully lift it away from the mounting bracket.

  6. You should just be able to see the screws now.

  7. At this point you can get slightly more room if you pull the intercooler off. If you choose to do so instructions are here: WRX & WRX STI TMIC Removal

  8. If you’re doing a turbo or something else at this time you’ll have much more room to do the next few steps. However we had no problem removing the screws by using some long needlenose pliers and squeezing tightly while turning the screws.

  9. Using a small amount of the provided silicone lube, rub it onto the o-ring and slip the o-ring over the tgv into the groove.

  10. This seal inside is around the shaft that moves the tgv open and closed. It works similarly to a throttle body. Over time the seal can dry out or fail. If there’s any debris in here, take a second and clean it out.

  11. Apply a small dab of the provided thread locker to the tip of two of your allen bolts.

  12. Gently press the TGV cap into place on the housing. You shouldn’t need to push too hard, and if you press hard while it sn’t straight, you may cause damage to the shaft or o-ring.

  13. Using your m3 allen wrench or socket, install the two allen bolts you previously put thread locker on. We got them into the holes using the needlenose pliers, then wereable to use an allen socket to get the tightened down the rest of the way.

  14. At this point you should be able to reinstall the items you removed, and go out to enjoy!
