Congratulations on your purchase of the COBB Tuning HydroCarbon Trap Intake! The following instructions will assist you through the installation process. Please read them BEFORE beginning the install to familiarize yourself with the steps and tools needed. If you feel you cannot properly perform this installation, we HIGHLY recommend you take the vehicle to a qualified and experienced automotive technician.

Stock Intake Removal

1. Park your car in a flat level area.

    

   
   
   

2. Once it's cooled down, Start by unclipping the wiring connector going to the intake air temp sensor.  In order to release the clip you'll want to push in fairly close to the base of the connector's release tab.

    

    

    

   
   
   

3. Go ahead and remove the two hose clamps connecting to the turbo inlet tubes using a 7mm nut driver.  It's not necessary to remove it from the airbox lid.

    

    

    

    

4. Pop the airbox clips loose, and remove the airbox and intake hose as one piece.
   
   

   
   
   

5. Remove the filter from the airbox.

    

   
   
   

6. On the passenger's side intake tube carefully lift up the release tab on the intake air temperature sensor and push down and turn to the left in order to release it from the tubing.  After removing it, put it in a safe place.
   
   

    

    

Optional: Swirl Generator/Toranadic Flux Generational System Removal

COBB Intake Pre-Assembly

1. Separate the outer ring of the air box gasket from the inner section. Stick the inner section to a friend/pet/loved one. The outer ring will go onto the airbox lid. Keep in mind the gasket and lid is a rectangle so fit it up in both directions to make sure you have it correct. On both airbox lids you’ll lined it up against the outside of the airbox towards the bottom left of this picture.
   
   

   
   
   

2. With it lined up, start by only removing the backing from that corner to get the sides lined up, then slowly pull the backing off around the rest of the gasket with it sitting down on the airbox to prevnt it moving around too much.
   
   

   
   
   

3. Install the two carbon trap assemblies into the filter. If you have a hard time a little bit of silicon lubricant spray on the ring of the filter can help ease installation. Slide each one in until the short end bottoms out in the filter against the stop ring.
   
   

   
   
   

4. This assembly will now get slid through the two holes in the airbox lid. With the flat side of the filter on the side towards the box, slide the two carbon trap assemblies through the holes in the lid.
   
   

   
   
   

5. Using the provided M6x1.0x16mm bolts, screw the air filter to the airbox lid. Get all the bolts in loosely before tightening. For the carbon intake use the provided plastic washers and only tighten them until the washers stop moving. If you hear a cracking sound stop tightening it and make sure it’s lined up.
   
   

    

   
   
   

6. Loosen the two #52 clamps a bit more until they easily slide over the larger end of the angled couplers.
   
   
   

7. Install the larger angled end of the coupler onto the carbon traps, make sure they are pushed all the way up to the internal stop on the coupler. Loosely install a #48 clamp over the other end of each coupler. Make sure to rotate them in a way you’ll be able to get to them from the outside.
   
   

    

    

   
   
   

8. Install the 3”-4” coupler onto the shorter leg of the J-shaped pipe with a #48 clamp over the small end. Loosely fit the large #64 clamp over the large end.
   
   

    

    

   
   
   

9. Using another #48 clamp install the straight 3” coupler to the end of the straight intake tube furthest from the bung for the intake air temp sensor and the two threaded spots. Loosely install another #48 clamp over the other end of the coupler.
   
   

   
   
   
   

COBB Intake Installation

1. You can now install the airbox into the car. Slip the tabs of the lid into the slots on the airbox base and swing it down into place, then lever the retaining clips on top to hold it in place.
   
   

   
   
   

2. Install the air intake temperature sensor into the passenger’s side intake tube. Make sure to push the sensor down all the way before rotating it clockwise to secure it in place. The tab on the sensor should sit on the outside of the bung.
   
   

    

   
   
   

    

    

   
   
   

3. Install the passenger’s side pipe to the airbox, and then the turbo inlet where it goes across the front of the engine.
   
   

    

   
   
   

4. Do the same with the driver’s side making sure not to drop the large clamp into the depths of the engine bay.
   
   

    

    

   
   
   

5. With all the hose clamps loose, rotate the tubes slightly until the threaded bosses are somewhat level with eachother.
   
   

    

   
   
   

6. Using the provided m4 allen wrench, install the bracket to hold the two pipes together.
   
   

    

    

   
   
   

7. Tighten down the hose clamps with a 8mm wrench or screwdriver. Plug the intake air temperature sensor back in.
   
   
   

8. You’re all done! Go out and enjoy!

CARB Sticker Application

(Where Applicable)

1. Apply the supplied CARB sticker in a clear, easy to find location.  Typically underhood, or on the radiator core support.
