Porsche Boxster 718 (982) ECU and PDK Removal
ECU Removal
- With your car in a flat level place, pop the hood AND TRUNK and remove the car's cowl piece covering the brake master cylinder and battery. Once done, go ahead and unhook the negative terminal of the battery using a 10mm socket. Make sure to pop the trunk prior to removing the battery terminal, or you won't be able to get the trunk open.
Failure to disconnect the battery before removing the ECU and/or PDK module can cause significant damage to their delicate circuitry.
If you need to move the car while the ECU is out, please put the car in "N" Neutral before disconnecting the battery and ECU. This will allow you to at least push the car if needed. - With everything ready to go up front head back to the trunk and locate the plastic shoulds surrounding the oil and coolant fill caps. With a good pull they should pop out easily, otherwise you can use the trim tool to pop it out.
- With the shrouds now removed, it is now possible to remove some of the upper carpeting. The sides of the carpet have some good spots you can get your fingers under and then carefully pull away. You will want to peel away enough carpet until you have full access to the ECU and PDK module.
NOTE: Be careful as you pull away the carpeting as the trunk light wiring may snag. You can simply disconnect the wires from the light if it gets in the way.
- The ECU is located just under the oil filler cap and should have a label with the Continental brand on it. Three 10mm bolts hold the ECU to the car. Remove them using a 10mm socket.
- The ECU has two big connectors, you remove them by pulling up on the lever towards the harness itself on either side. You'll see the locking tab slide out so that the connector can come free.
- With the ECU now removed from the car, head over to a work bench and remove the six T30 bolts holding the ECU bracket on.
- That's it! Your ECU has successfully been removed!
- Reinstallation is the reverse of the removal instructions.
- And that's it, connect the negative battery terminal and you're done! You are now ready to install the COBB Accessport onto the vehicle. Make sure you have a battery charger on the car's battery during the install process.
Here are some instructions on how to install the COBB Accessport
