COBB Intake tube kit for Outback XT
Congratulations on your purchase of the COBB Tuning Intake Tube for Outback XT! The following instructions will assist you through the installation process. Please read them BEFORE beginning the install to familiarize yourself with the steps and tools needed. If you feel you cannot properly perform this installation, we HIGHLY recommend you take the vehicle to a qualified and experienced automotive technician.

Splash Shield Removal
Start by parking your car in a flat level area. You’ll need to be able to work both under and above the car at times.
Jack your car up and safely support it, or use a lift if you’re a baller.
Using your trim tool remove the trim clips on the bottom of the splash guard and the front part of the wheel liner. This is done by pulling out the center until it stops, then popping the outside body out of the plastic shield.
There are 10 that need to be removed facing down, then three holding the splash guard and wheel liner together on each side. And another two in the wheel wells along the frame rail holding the splash guard to the frame of the car.Remove the two 12mm bolts at the front.
Stock Intake Removal
At the top of the car, undo the hose clamp hosing the factory tube to the airbox using a screwdriver or 7mm socket.
With that pulled out of the way a little, remove the 10mm bolt holding the intake to the frame of the car. You can unbolt the bracket from the body as you won’t need the bracket wtih the new piece.
Now undo the hose clamp to the turbo, and pull the whole tube out of the car.
COBB Intake Tube Installation
Start by pre-assembling the couplers on the pipe in the orientation shown. Secure the couplers using the provided hose clamps.
The pipe has two bends, one is oriented parallel to the main 90 degree bend in the pipe and are both going to follow along the floor (as seen towards the bottom right). This will go towards the turbo inlet. The other bend is perpindicular to those bends going towards the floor and lifting the pipe up. This goes towards the intake and can be seen in the top left in this picture.
The 90 degree coupler will attach to the bend perpindicular to the 90, with the bend making it turn in the same direction as the rest ofthe intake tube, and on the end that will attach to the intake box. It will need to be pushed down an inch or so onto the pipe. Pre-install with one of the smaller clamps on the intake tube side, and the larger hose clamp on the intake side. Do not tighten them yet.
The 50 degree coupler can get installed on the opposite end with the cobb logo again on the end away from the intake tube. Pre-install the remaining two small hose clamps onto this coupler.
Work the new COBB pipe into the car, it should match the orientation of the stock intake going up to the airbox and the turbo inlet.
If you’re struggling to get the pipe in place, you can take the 90 degree coupler off and install it onto the airbox and then slip the pipe into it. Additionally through unplugging the MAF sensor, and undoing the two metal clips holding the airbox lid on, you can remove the lid and have a bit more room for adjustment before getting things in place.
Get the coupler in place over the intake airbox, leaving the clamps loose for now. (keep in mind that there is a small square to key the factory intake in place, the coupler should go right up against that but doesn’t need to go over it.
Slip the other end over the turbo inlet, again leaving things loose for the moment.
Now you’ll want to rotate some of the couplers around a small bit to make sure the intake tube is sitting in a good spot. You want to make sure it has clearance with the fender, as well as the fender lining. Keeping it further forward than the back of the resonance chamber is a good benchmark to keep it out of the way of things.
Once you’re happy with the clearance, go ahead and tighten down the hose clamps starting at the turbo inlet and working out towards the airbox.
Reinstall the splash shield, then you’re all done! Go out and enjoy!
