Porsche Cayman 718 (982) ECU and PDK Removal

These instructions will explain the process for removal of the ECU and PDK module for the Cayman model of the 718 (982).

Instructions

Battery Disconnect and Neutral

  • With your car in a flat level place, pop the hood AND TRUNK and remove the car's cowl piece covering the brake master cylinder and battery.  Once done, go ahead and unhook the negative terminal of the battery using a 10mm socket.  Make sure to pop the trunk prior to removing the battery terminal, or you won't be able to get the trunk open.

Failure to disconnect the battery before removing the ECU and/or PDK module can cause significant damage to their delicate circuitry.
If you need to move the car while the ECU is out, please put the car in "N" Neutral before disconnecting the battery and ECU. This will allow you to at least push the car if needed.

Trunk Disassembly

  • Open the trunk of the car and locate the carpeting on the left side of the car under the C pillar. Go ahead and remove the carpeted piece. After the carpeted piece is out, take out the plastic C-pillar piece as well. It will simply "pop" out of place. There's some plastic nipple covers that may fall out of place, just be sure to put them back on.

    Oil and Coolant Cover

  • Twist off the covers for the oil and coolant and set them aside. You can now "pop" off the oil and coolant cover. You really only need to pop off the more left side of this cover to get the access that we need. Pull some of the carpeting back and you'll be able to locate the ECU.

    ECU Removal

  • There are a total of two 10mm nuts to remove and a 10mm bolt. Take these off and the ECU will move out of place. Once it is out of place, simply pull back and disconnect the harnesses connected to the ECU.

    Bracket Removal

  • With the ECU now removed from the car, head over to a work bench and remove the six T30 bolts holding the ECU bracket on.

  • Reinstallation is the reverse of the removal instructions.
  • And that's it, connect the negative battery terminal and you're done! You are now ready to install the COBB Accessport onto the vehicle. Make sure you have a battery charger on the car's battery during the install process.

Here are some instructions on how to install the COBB Accessport

PDK Removal

Trunk Disassembly

  • Open the trunk of the car and locate the carpeting on the left side of the car under the C pillar. Go ahead and remove the carpeted piece. There's some plastic nipple covers that may fall out of place, just be sure to put them back on.

    PDK Module Removal

  • The PDK module is located under the plastic and carpeted pieces you just removed. Simply unclip it and slide it out of the way to remove.
