Parts List

Tools Needed

Hand Tools

  • Phillips head screwdriver

  • Flathead screwdriver

Wrenches

  • 2x 12mm combination wrench

Trim Removal

  1. Park your car in a flat, level area before proceeding.

Pull up on the rear of the center console shifter surround trim piece to remove it from the center console. Disconnect the wiring harness for the lighter so that the surround can be placed aside.  This will make it easier to work, without scratching the center console or the center console shifter surround trim piece.
To remove the center console shifter surround, start by removing the (2) 10mm bolts in the arm rest storage.  Pull up on the e-brake boot and the surround to remove it.  Unscrew the Phillips head screw that is now visible. Lift up on the center console portion and gently slide it back a little to free up the shifter surround that is partially underneath it. They slightly overlap so just a slight lift is all you need Lift up on the rear of the shifter surround and slide it back towards the rear of the car. Unclip the wire underneath this piece in order to be able to set the trim piece aside.

Stock Bushing Removal

  1. Whether you have a COBB Short Shifter or a stock shifter the removal will be the same.

  2. Start by undoing the bolt using two m12 wrenches (you might be able to fit a ratchet in there if it’s small)

  3. Pull the bolt out of the center.

  4. Turn the shifter around in place and wiggle the shift fork to get to a point where you have clearance to the bushings.

  5. Push the stock center piece out of the bushings then the bushing on each side. You can sometimes use the stock bolt to push the bushings out.

  6. For 08+ 6-speed cars you’ll need to push in the steel inserts. (these may have also come on your short shifter kit).

  7. After adding a little of the provided lube to the outside of each bushing, go ahead and pop the delrin bushings in either side.

  8. Choose the appropriate length pin. The shorter one is going to be for the Narrow 5-speed cars. The longer pin is for wide barrel and 6-speed cars. If you hold the pin up to the outside of the shifter with the bushings in place, it should be about the same size. Add a little lube to the outside of the appropriate pin, and slide that into place.

  9. You should be good to put everything back together! Go out and enjoy!
