  • Trim removal tool

Stock Step Cover Removal

  1. Park your car in a flat, level area

  2. Lay the tailgate flat, then press the button and partiall pull out the step, but not so far that it’s going to swing down, you want it to stay parallel to the ground.

  3. On the bottom side of the step you’ll find two trim clips, pop those out of there. On many trucks this may already be broken.

  4. Starting at one end, carefully pull on the step to remove. The plastic is weirdly tearable so it may not come out all in one piece especially if it’s been in the sun for a long time.

Step Installation

  1. Pre-thread the set screws into the smaller nut plates with the allen head pointing towards the narrower end.

  2. With the set screw towards the center (inside) of the truck, wiggle the nut plate into the holes found on each corner of the step plate. Having an allen wrench in the set screw can give you a little more leverage. Don’t worry if it falls over, it’s in a little pocket and can’t go far. Use your Allen on the set screw to flip it down then slowly screw in the allen, it should pop the whole thing into place. The allen does not need to be tight it’s just there to let you get the bolts in later.

  3. Loosely bolt the step cover into the corners, basically you only want the bolts started so it holds the plate in place for the next step.

  4. Take a long flat screwdriver and tape it to the back side (flatter of the two sides) of the long nut plates. Just put one piece of something like blue masking tape flat on the back of the plate and screwdriver, if you wrap it around the sides you run the risk of it not coming off when you want it to.

  5. With that accomplished you’ll slide it inside the step from the back to the inner set of two bolt holes, then bolt it into place with two of the allen bolts and the 4mm Allen wrench.

  6. Once you’ve repeated that process on the other side, you can go ahead and tighten all 8 bolts down, don’t fully tighten until all the bolts are fairly close, then go through and tighten them down.

  7. You’re all done! Go out and enjoy!
