Shifter Plate Install

Installation of COBB Shift Plate

  1. First we'll want to remove the factory airbox so we can gain access to the shift weight sitting on top of the transmission.  To do so, use an 8mm socket to remove the four bolts that secure the lid of the box in place.  They loosen but are captured in the lid so they will stay attached when loose.  Once loosened remove the lid from the engine bay.

  2. Disconnect the MAP sensor attached to the box as well.

  3. Using an 8mm socket, loosen the clamp that secures the airbox to the turbo inlet tube until there is slack.  Socket size may vary depending on the intake that is installed.

  4. Remove the air filter and set it aside.

  5. Undo the strap in front of the box taht secures the fresh air inlets.  Remove each inlet by pulling them away from the box.

  6. Carefully remove the airbox by pulling it up and outward.  It is held in place by three mounts.  Set the box to the side.

  7. You now have access to the shift linkage and weight.  Using a large flathead screwdriver or trim tool, pop the shift linkage carefully off of the ball stud on top of the shift weight.

  8. With the stock shifter out of the way drop the new plate over the top of the shifter weight.  You can also apply the provided thread locker to each of the bolts and drop them into place.

  9. Now go ahead and loosely install the backing plate by turning the bolts with the provided Allen wrench but leave it loose.

  10. With that loosely held on, tighten the set screw on the side.

  11. Now go ahead and tighten the top bolts down the rest of the way.

  12. WIth the plate installed, apply the threadlocker to the ball socket and install it into the desired shift reduction position using a plastic washer underneath it.

  13. Everything installed you can snap the shifter cable back in place.

  14. It's usually a good idea to now adjust the neutral position of the shifter, so with the shifter in Neutral, release this white clip on the cable nearest the fender.

  15. Now shift the car into 4th gear, then go back to the engine bay and reattach the clip in the stock position.

  16. You're all done!  Put everything back together in the reverse order of removal, then go out and enjoy!
